What should I do if I am a victim of a crime?
Victims of crime should report the details of the crime to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force as soon as possible so that appropriate actions can be taken to bring the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice.
To report a crime, you can contact any officer within the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in person or you can go to or telephone any of the Police stations around the Territory. Contact details of the stations and their locations can be found on this website or within the British Virgin Islands Telephone Directory (referenced under Royal Virgin Islands Police Force).
When reporting a crime, you will be asked to provide a full and accurate account of the crime to the receiving officer, whose duty is to act in a timely and professionally manner in order to ensure that the crime is fully investigated.
What should I do if I have information relating to a crime?
If you have information regarding a crime please come forward to help us solve that crime. You can provide information to the police without having to give your name. You are only required to give an honest and full account of what you may have seen or heard in relation to a crime that may have been committed or about to be committed. This information can be provided at any police station, to any officer with whom you feel comfortable or by calling the anonymous hotline at 1-800-744-TIPS or 1-800-744-8477 or anonymously via our website at www.rvipolice.com and click on the “Help Us Solve a Crime” box.
It is the duty of the receiving officer to ask questions only for the purpose of clarity. You are not required to give a statement or sign your name to any document.
What should I do if I witness a crime?
If you witness a crime, please come forward to support the victim of the crime and help us bring the perpetrators to justice. The information you hold as a witness to the incident, no matter how small or trivial you may believe it is, could prove crucial to the investigation.
If you have witnessed a crime, you should report the matter to the nearest police station without delay. Should you still be at the scene or in the vicinity of the crime, you should speak to any police officer at the incident.
It is not advised that witnesses use the anonymous hotline since personal contact with a police officer is paramount to the officer receiving a comprehensive and accurate report of the incident as soon as possible. However, should you not wish to formally identify yourself, you can provide that information through the anonymous hotline at 1-800-744-TIPS or 1-800-744-8477 or anonymously via our website at www.rvipolice.com and click on the “Help Us Solve a Crime” box.
