The Beat and Patrol unit is the branch of the RVIPF which provides high uniformed visibility, in the districts within Road Town and its outskirts.
This includes east of Road Town: from Sophie Bay, Belle Vue, Long Trench, Great Mountain and Huntums Ghut; and to the West: from Pockwood Pond, Chalwell Estate and Harrigan Estate.
These officers patrol Road Town and its environs on foot and by vehicle, 24 hours a day, covering all incidents which happen during the shift.
The beat officers check business places, monitor suspicious activities and report matters requiring further attention to Road Town Police Station.
All police vehicles and officers on patrol are equipped with radios and are in constant touch with all police stations, police vehicles and other Beat & Patrol officers.
Officers perform other duties which include but not limited to the following:
- Interacting with members of the public as an active part of community policing
- Providing protection for dignitaries
- Driving overseas dignitaries and officials visiting the territory
- Driving Supreme Court Judges and Masters of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court
- Patroling Cruise Ship Dock and assist tourists
- Responding to serious and minor incident reports
Inspectors and Sergeants attached to the Beat and Patrol, in addition to a managerial and oversight role, also perform the role of custody officers for persons arrested or detained at Road Town Police Station.
