Police Information OfficerCOP updates officers on draft policies, promotion

A revised firearm policy to psychologically screen, train and arm officers of the Force was one of many topics discussed at a recent Force quarterly meeting held by the Commissioner of Police.

In a close-door meeting, officers of the force heard about proposals to change to the firearm policy which should ultimately equip more officers with firearms particularly at night. The revised policy does not limit the number of officers that will be armed on any team, operation or station.

Before implementation, the policy will be further reviewed and must be ratified by the National Security Council.

At the same meeting, the Commissioner named the 13 officers that have been confirmed to substantive rank within the Force. Two superintendents - Roy Stoutt and Alwin James; three chief inspectors - Kenrickson Shepherd, St. Clair Amory and Alexis Charles; four inspectors - Kendell Mills, Kenneth Jordan, Calvin James and Bewadney Howe and four sergeants - Ivor Frazer, George James, Aubrey Liburd and Joseph Toulon were confirmed.

At that meeting, His Excellency the Governor Mr. David Pearey was invited by the Commissioner to address the Force.

He spoke on several matters including the selection of the Deputy Commissioner and the role of the Police Service Commission (PoSc) regarding promotion and disciplinary matters. Chairperson of the PoSC and Deputy Director of the Social Security Board Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe-Boynes also addressed the gathering.

Commissioner of Police holds quarterly meetings with his officers to share and receive feedback on matters of concern to the Force.
