Police Information OfficerPolice caution public in wake of late night robberies

Police are investigating two separate incidents of robbery, one in Virgin Gorda last week and one on Main Street over the weekend, where patrons were attacked after leaving bar establishments.

Inquiries indicate that early last Saturday morning, about 2am, a man left a Main Street restaurant and bar and entered an adjacent parking lot when he was approached by three males dressed in black, pushed to the ground and robbed of cash and credit cards. The victim received minor injuries in the incident.

In a separate incident last week in Virgin Gorda, a man left a bar around 5am and was approached in the parking lot by a male wearing a bandana over his face, holding a gun who demanded the gold chain he was wearing. During a struggle which ensued, the culprit snatched the chain and left. The victim received minor injuries in the incident.

Police are working with the BVI Tourist Board to provide a more secured environment for residents and tourists alike. However, persons are asked to heed the advice of the Crime Prevention Unit in order to reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime.

The Unit encourages persons to travel with company at night, to pay special attention to their surrounding, to travel only in well-lit areas and to avoid traveling with large amounts of cash.

Persons are asked to report any suspicious behaviour immediately to the Road Town Police Station at 494-3822.
