POLICE STOP/SEARCH YIELDS SECOND FIREARM RECOVERY FOR 2010
A random Police stop search operation conducted last evening in the Duff Bottom area led to the recovery of another illegal firearm and the arrest of man.
Officers of the Operation Crackdown stopped a Chevrolet cavalier rental vehicle around 10:30pm last night and in the presence of its sole occupant, searched the vehicle. From the search, police found a loaded pistol in the center console of the vehicle.
Driver of the vehicle 28-year-old Danny Pemberton of Sea Cows Bay was charged today for carrying an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of explosives and unlawful possession of cannabis. He is expected to appear before the Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
A firearm was recovered from a vehicle less than a month ago on Waterfront Drive in a similar operation. The driver was charged and is now serving a 15-month sentence.
Superintendent of Police Richard Holder had noted in January that police would be actively engaging in stop searches. At that time he stated that "the times and places of these operations will invariably change but we are going to make every effort to remove firearms from our streets," he added.
