Monday, February 22 - Police officers of all ranks joined the Road Town Methodist Church congregation this past Sunday to open a week of activities to mark this year's Police Week celebrations all geared toward creating opportunities to strengthen police and community ties.

Under the theme 'Bridging the gap through partnerships in a changing society", the RVIPF will begin activities to mark its 43rd year of service to the people of the Virgin Islands following Sunday's service.

At the service, Commissioner of Police Reynell Frazer used the opportunity to encourage those gathered to unite in the fight against crime. He spoke as well of the role of the church in continuing to help to direct the youth into positive activities.

During his remarks, the Commissioner commemorated the eight officers who died in service since the Force was first established in 1968. Wreaths were later laid on the graves of the six officers buried in the territory, while plaques will be presented to the families of the two buried overseas.

Following the service, members of the Force visited the Adina Donovan Home and made a presentation of chairs which were needed at the home.

Events to mark Police Week will include a 20/20 Wilson Sylvester and Gregory Alleyne Memorial Cricket Match to be held at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College on Monday evening at 3pm.

A football match is planned for the Virgin Gorda Playing Field on Tuesday at 6pm and a softball re-match between the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and HM Customs on Wednesday night at 6pm at the Old Recreation Ground in addition on Friday a Variety Show will be held at the Elmore Stoutt High School at 7pm.
